An ESA letter shows the public, apartments, landlords, and some public places (where other animals are restricted) you have medical needs for your pet. It is unlawful to restrict a person from their medical needs.

ESA letters last a year and have to be renewed. Proper vest and ID cards are required at all times. Vest and ID cards are not available with ESA letter and have to be purchased separately.

Who can get an ESA letter? Only resident of Louisiana can be evaluated at this time.

Can I take my ESA on a plane? Only Service Animals (SA) can fly on a plane.

What the difference between a ESA and SA? Service animals are trained to do a particular service. ESA may or may not be trained. 

How do I get an ESA? You have to be evaluated by a licensed mental health professional.

Do I have to see a therapist to get an ESA? You don’t have to make regular appointments with a therapist, although it will be recommended to have one available.
